OSHA says that some of the most important ways to keep employees and customers safe include:
- Whenever possible, owners and workers should use products with the least hazardous chemicals in them.
- Ventilate the room to remove chemicals in the air. This is the best way to lower the level of chemicals in a salon.
- Closing bottles tightly when they are not being used so the product does not spill or get into the air.
- Using metal trash cans with tight, self-closing lids to keep the nail products soaked on cotton balls and other trash from evaporating and getting into the salon's air.
- Using only the amount of product you need to perform services. When possible, do not keep extra product at workstations.
- Following instructions for safely disposing of used chemicals.
- Keeping food and drink covered at all times.
- Keeping products off of skin and out of eyes by wearing gloves and goggles when working with products.

- Even if dust mites may be more common during the humid summer months, they often get stirred up into the air when you start up your indoor heating in the autumn.
